Politicians reacted to this alarming state by the implementation of control mechanisms of harmful emissions production. The Czech Republic adopted new legislation related to air protection in 1991. Decreasing emissions tendency of all pollutants was recorded during the following years and were reflected in the decrease of individual pollutants in atmospheric deposition and subsequently in surface water and soil. The Košetice Observatory (49°34´24” N, 15°4´49” E, 534 m a.s.l., background station) has been monitoring sulphate sulphur in precipitation water (in open area and in the forest stand) and runoff water in a small forest catchment (involved in ICP-IM programme) for more than 29 years. The maximum of sulphur deposition was measured at the beginning of 1990´s (26,1 kg.ha-1.yr-1 as an average for 1990-1994) and minimum at the end of study period (4.6 kg.ha-1.yr-1 as an average for 2014-2018). In response to the decreased sulphur deposition, the acidification in surface water started to reduce and mass balance has been established. Based on these results, we want to investigate the effect of legislative regulations and the changes in sulphur concentrations and deposition in our study area. |9 eng |
