The author focuses on the terminology related to German and Slovak testaments from the 18th and 19th centuries, which can be found in the Slovak State Archive in Trnava. On the basis of the archival study, it was possible to separately characterize the legal terminology of inheritance in both languages. The analysis of the terminology is descriptive and comparative, using a corpus of historical terminology whichmoreover reflects the legal-historical background and the relation of language and the terminological system. This study is of comparative character and presents evidence of how German language influenced Slovak during the interlingual coexistence of these two ethnic groups, dominant in the urban centres of the Upper Hungary region, i.e. present-day Slovakia. The paper also describes the creation of the Slovak testament-related terminology stemming from the German language as the original source, which played a crucial role in the process of its creation. … full description
